Meet our tech lead: Jan Lindblad

At Your Devocean, we believe that trust is built on foundations — not just visions. That’s why we are beyond proud to welcome Jan Lindblad as our new Tech Lead.

Jan offers a unique blend of world-class technical expertise and deep climate engagement. With decades of experience in building resilient data systems and a proven track record of turning innovation into industry standards, he also carries the perspective of a Climate Reality Leader and grassroots activist.

This rare combination means that with Jan on board, Your Devocean isn’t just moving faster — we’re building on a foundation of strength, trust, and long-term impact.

A heavyweight in technology

Jan has lived and breathed technology since childhood. He soldered together his first computer at age 12, wrote his first compiler at 16, and by 30 had passed the one million lines of code milestone. With a master’s degree in Computer Science from KTH, he joined Ericsson’s Erlang/OTP team, building fault-tolerant, massively parallel, distributed systems — the kind of technology that underpins telecom networks worldwide.

Later, as the very first employee at Tail-f, he helped develop groundbreaking network management software that disrupted a market dominated by giants like IBM and Ericsson. The company’s journey ended in a multi-million dollar acquisition by Cisco — a clear signal of the quality and market value of the technology Jan helped build.

In parallel with building advanced systems, Jan has played a pivotal role in defining global standards. As one of only a dozen IETF YANG Doctors worldwide, he has been trusted to review and shape the way management data is modeled. He is also co-author of the industry-leading book Network Programmability with YANG.

At Your Devocean, this expertise gives us what few in climate tech can truly claim: a trusted technical core, capable of becoming the de facto standard for ocean impact data.

A Climate Reality Leader & Fridays for Future builder

Alongside his tech career, Jan has built a deep commitment to climate action. On July 12, 2015, while listening to Johan Rockström on Sommar i P1, he realized he needed to act personally. That decision led him into Greenpeace, where he became webmaster and campaign tech support for multiple climate organizations.

When a young Greta Thunberg began striking outside the Swedish Parliament, Jan built the Fridays For Future global strike map — a platform that today shows over 50,000 strikes worldwide and continues to grow.

He is also a Climate Reality Leader, trained in Rome alongside the Your Devocean founders, where our paths first crossed. That meeting has now turned into a partnership with lasting impact.

Why Jan chose Your Devocean

Jan could have taken his skills anywhere. But he chose to join Your Devocean. Why?

Because our mission resonates with both sides of who he is:

  • the technologist who knows the power of building standards and platforms,

  • and the climate advocate who believes that data and accountability are the levers for systemic change.

In Jan’s own words:

“YourDevocean is now in a similar position as Tail-f was. There’s an established industry with outdated practices and no standards for how data should be computed, communicated, and aggregated. Finding the right forums and methods — and spreading them — will be key.”

For us as founders, having Jan onboard is not just about code. It’s about confidence. With him, we know that the platform we’re building is in the best possible hands — technically, strategically, and ethically.

A rock for the future

Your Devocean is building an open-protocol ESG platform for the ocean — turning NGO efforts into audit-grade impact that companies can trust, report, and scale. For businesses, this means a marketplace of high-ROI ocean impact assets, bookable for ESG compliance and Green CapEx.

To do this right, you need more than ambition. You need an anchor. And with Jan Lindblad as Tech Lead, we have just that: a sustainability-engaged rock strong enough to carry the future of ocean regeneration.

Welcome aboard, Jan.
